Manohar Sambhaji Nikam, Thane Guniratna Award winner is true master of portraits. Started as a banner artist when he was a young lad highly interested in producing art in 1970s. Rose to prominence since then and became master banner artist in 80s. Designed and made oil colour banners on very large canvases. Which were highly appreciated by the leading actors.
Worked as a banner artist in Baharain and produced remarkable banners over there. With the advent of computerised colour printing of artfully made banners started losing their shine. As a result most of the banner artists started losing work and moved to other fields. Mr. Nikam however continued to pursue his passion for art and started producing portraits. He continued to get work in his new profession. He is probably the busiest portrait artist around. He has made more than 1000 portraits during his career.
He has also worked on cutouts and his mammoth cutouts have been on display at various occasions in Thane.
